Prvi poznati stanovnici Hvara bili su Iliri, koji su naseljavali ovo podru\u010dje mnogo prije dolaska Grka. U 4. stolje\u0107u prije Krista, Grci su osnovali koloniju pod nazivom Pharos, na mjestu dana\u0161njeg Starog Grada, koja je postala jedno od najva\u017enijih naselja na Jadranu.
